Sisterhood College Treats

Did you know that if you are a member of Sisterhood, your college student can receive treat packages three times during the school year (Rosh HaShanah, Chanukah, and Pesach)? All you have to do is send your child or grandchild’s name and address at college to Barbara Holst, and your student will receive a holiday package, at no cost.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Barbara Holst

Would You Like to Read Torah or Haftarah
for the High Holy Days or the Fall Festivals?

The Ritual Practices Committee invites anyone who wishes to read a Torah portion or Haftarah for either the High Holy Days or the Fall Festivals to please contact Rabbi Symons at rabbi@templedavid.org.

Would You Like to Lift the Torah or Sound the Shofar?

Hagbah and Ba’al Tekiah are two of the highest honors for participants at our services. They both take a little practice, but they are within reach of many of our members.

After reading from the Torah, we lift it high for the congregation to see. This is called Hagbah. At Temple David it has been the role of a few men. Let’s expand the participants, including both men and women. Hagbah involves more balance than strength. If you are Jewish, over age 16, average strength, free of physical impairments, let me know if you’re interested and we’ll set a practice date.

A Ba’al Tekiah sounds the shofar several times during the High Holy Days. In recent years at Temple David, this has been done by a few volunteers. I’d like to expand that group, so let me know and we’ll schedule an informational meeting. No prior experience is needed.

If you’d like to participate in the services in any way, let me know and we’ll get you in, especially if you need some new skills—we’ll get you the help you need.

Stan Beck,
Chair—Ritual Practices Committee
