In-Person and On Zoom (www.is.gd/tdathome)

How does a machzor guide our High Holy Day experience?
Let’s take a look using our new machzor Mishkan HaNefesh.

In-Person and On Zoom (www.is.gd/tdathome)

There are no dumb questions. Really. Together we will look at the texts, history, rituals, and creative celebrations of our holidays. For this session about the High Holy Days, let’s learn:

  • How are Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur linked?
  • Is the Book of Life mentioned in the Torah?
  • Why do people wear white?
  • What is a kittel?
  • What can I do to make the High Holy Days more meaningful to me personally?

* With apologies to David Reuben, M.D.

We are looking for staff (see above), but at this time we will be not be offering babysitting or a school-age program during the High Holy Days.

If we do find staff, we will relay information on how to sign up for these programs.

Please support Temple David and return the order form promptly.

Would You Like to Read Torah or Haftarah
for the High Holy Days or the Fall Festivals?

Temple David invites all of our members to participate in the High Holy Day services or the Fall Festivals by reading a portion of Torah or Haftarah.

All Torah and Haftarah portions for this year will be read in person, and we would be happy to help you prepare for a reading in Hebrew or English.

Please contact Rabbi Symons at rabbi@templedavid.org.

After reading from the Torah, we lift it high for the congregation to see. This is called Hagbah. At Temple David it has been the role of a few men. Let’s expand the participants, including both men and women. Hagbah involves more balance than strength. If you are Jewish, over age 16, average strength, free of physical impairments, let me know if you’re interested and we’ll set a practice date.

A Ba’al Tekiah sounds the shofar several times during the High Holy Days. In recent years at Temple David, this has been done by a few volunteers. I’d like to expand that group, so let me know and we’ll schedule an informational meeting. No prior experience is needed.

If you’d like to participate in the services in any way, let me know and we’ll get you in, especially if you need some new skills—we’ll get you the help you need.

Chair—Ritual Practices Committee

Join us for our annual contribution to the Cross Roads Presbyterian Church Food Pantry. It is the largest one-day donation they receive. The pantry helps over 1,000 local families annually.

Grocery bags will be available as you leave Temple on Erev Rosh HaShanah, Monday, September 6.

Filled bags will be collected on Yom Kippur morning, Thursday, September 16.

Those not attending in-person services may drop off on Tuesday, September 14 or Wednesday, September 15 (9 a.m.-2 p.m.).

Once again Temple David will be sponsoring our annual Sukkot fresh fruit and vegetable drive.

Please bring your produce on the evening of Monday, September 20, or the morning of Tuesday, September 21 and place it near the indoor sukkah on the bimah.

The participants of Cross Roads Food Pantry are grateful for the additional fresh produce to supplement the healthy foods they receive throughout the year.
